Lately, I have been thinking about my upcoming graduation. At the same time, I am also avoiding thinking about it because I have no idea what I am going to do after I graduate. I am so scared that I think I might even add a minor just so I can stay in school longer. I think I was very comfortable with the time I had to decide what I wanted to do after graduation that I kept putting actually after university planning aside. But now the time has come and I have a short amount of time to decide everything. Time really is fleeting and even this semester feels like it just started and we are almost done. At the moment, I am going with the flow and I hope that this strategy works out. I have learned to be accepting of what life throws my way and try to make things work out for the better.  I also believe that everything will eventually work itself out.

In times of uncertainty, like these, I often think of one of my heroes, Oprah Winfrey. Oprah had a rough start, but eventually she was able to successfully build an empire through all of her hard work, setting an example that anything is really possible, even if you don’t get the best start. Maybe I’ll decide to go to graduate school or even travel for a bit until I decide what to do next, but things have a way of happening that makes the journey worthwhile.  Even though things seem scary now, I am excited for things to come.

  1. Your over thinking it!! But I definitely support adding the extra minor and staying in school. Work sucks and staying in school as long as possible is a great way to avoid working!

  2. I understand your concerns of uncertainty, but it sounds like you also have a lot of confidence in what you bring to the table so I think you'll be fine! This is definitely the time in your life to figure things out and what path you'd like to take, so I think like you said it's good to enjoy the journey and your hard work will pay off!

  3. I am graduating in December after being at Oregon State University for 2 years and here for 3 and a half. With my two majors and so much money in debt, I am happy to finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. But, I know how scary it is thinking about entering into the real world. I am in the process of trying to balance school, an internship and searching for a job and having no luck finding openings. I think the best way to figure out what you want to do is explore through internships and job shadowing. You would be surprised at how willing people are to talk and teach you about their jobs, especially if you find USC grads. But my best friend is currently getting her Masters and will be starting on her PhD next year just to avoid entering the real world. So if you just find something you love, then you will be happy!

  4. I'm also finishing in December and the thought is a bittersweet one. I think if your minor is something you really want to do, then definitely go for it; but if it's something you're considering because you're scared of the thought of the real world, then don't do it. The unknown is always scary but in the end, it all works out. Before we started college, I'm sure you, like myself, were also worried about college life, class, and etc., but once you're there, it untangles itself and you come to enjoy it. I think the real world will be very similar to that.

  5. I actually just added a minor this semester besides my double majors (I am still able to graduate in May though). I just want to say to follow your heart. Staying an extra semester might increase your parents' burden but you will have a great experience of learning what you really love. I would say this is what matters the most to you. And don't be too stressed out for the future! Traveling and going to grad school both sound good to me. Get to the real world when you feel ready and I believe you will be doing perfectly fine. Cheer up!

  6. I'm in the same boat as you. I'm graduating in May, no idea what I want to do and going crazy over recruiting, trying to secure a job this semester. My philosophy is that everything always works out at the end! So just keep working hard and finish strong!
